The Rigify Approach
If you’re using Rigify to create your character’s rig, here are some useful resources to hopefully answer some of the questions you might have.
MAKE SURE TO WATCH THE “RIG ANYTHING WITH RIGIFY” VIDEO SERIES ON YOUTUBE. IT’S NOT THAT LONG AND EXTREMELY HELPFUL. YOU CAN WATCH IT HERE.

The Bone Layers Explained:
- “DEF”
- The Bones deforming the mesh
- “ORG”
- A duplicate of the DEF bones
- To keep them safe while developing the rig mechanics
- The DEF bones copy the transformations from their respective ORG bone
- MCH
- To create certain functions, like IK mechanics
- Work together with ORG bones to create a more user-friendly rig
- Rest
- The visible bones to interact with
- They have custom shapes and are sorted in labeled layers to make the rig more intuitive
- They control the MCH and ORG bones
